Date: Monday, December 8, 2008
Time: 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Location: Vanderslice Cabaret Room
City/Town: Chestnut Hill, MA

For the very first time, the Korean Students Association and the Asian Christian Fellowship are coming together to host an event that can appeal to two seemingly very different clubs. In a concert featuring four up-and-coming Asian-American hip-hop artists with messages of hope and inspiration, KSA and ACF hope to create more unity on campus.

Featuring:
LYRICKS, also known as Rick Lee, is a Korean-American rap artist who grew up in northern Virginia and recently moved out to Southern California to pursue rap as a full-time career. His music, which includes both a secular and God-focused repertoire, is characterized by a genuineness of lyrics, smoothness of flow, and strength of passion and humility found in very few rap artists today. Together with DJ Zo, who’s always droppin’ mad cuts, LYRICKS is here to revolutionize the rap game.

MANIFEST
Peter Kang aka Manifest is bringing a serious change to the world of hip-hop. Whether it was on Youtube or Myspace that this young artist was found, this Korean-American rapper surely knows how to draw your attention. Raised in Philly and currently residing in northern Virginia, Manifest delivers a unique and bold sound that is capturing the hearts of listeners everywhere. From fast flows to slower lyric-emphasized tracks, he maintains a firm direction in his positive messages. He has recently finished and released his second mixtape called “Revealed Volume II”, a hearty 25-track album that is selling at a fast pace not only to fans here in the States, but internationally as well in places such as Japan, Germany, Australia, Canada, and Sweden. Best known for self-produced hit “Gift” featuring his partners Lyricks and J-Smaals, Manifest continues to finally bring real lyrics back to hiphop.

DUMBFOUNDEAD is a Korean American emcee/poet from Los Angeles, CA and has performed all around the U.S. and Canada. His comedic and lyrical style is very unique and easy to tell apart from everybody else. His freestyle ability has placed him amongst the top battlers in the world and can be found all over youtube. In 2007 he entered the WRC (World Rap Championships) and was one of only two asians who entered. He is also a member of the Project Blowed (the longest running open-mic in the world). He now tours regularly and can be seen rockin’ cyphers, battles and stages all around the world.

DJ ZO
Whether in the studio mixing down vocals, or on the turntables mixing in beats, DJ Zo speaks with his hands manipulating sound. Originally from Northern Virginia/Washington DC and now residing in Los Angeles, DJ Zo is always behind the scenes, putting in work. As the backbone of the beautiful cycle, DJing for Lyricks, Manifest, & Dumbfoundead, as well as the Swim Team from LA, Zo constantly pushes the boundaries of music. His strong ties in the LA underground, turntablist/DJ community, and asian-american community have enabled him to share stages and open for performers such as 112, Baby Bash, Warren G, & Common. His originality and style in music is a result of his years of experience with DJ battles, club/top 40 gigs, breakdancing events, weddings, underground rap performances, and late night studio sessions. Since moving to LA Zo has DJed at several highly regarded clubs such as the House of Blues on Sunset and has performed in front of 24,000 people with Lyricks at the LA Galaxy halftime show. With experience DJing at Universities such as Princeton University to Claremont College, Zo is here today alongside Lyricks, Manifest, and Dumbfoundead to revolutionize the rap game. Bottom line- these guys are for real.

This FREE concert is open to ANYONE who wants to enjoy some really good music after the last day of classes.
DOORS OPEN AT 7:30 in Vandy Cabaret.

So, please COME and invite all your friends! It’ll be an amazing time as a study break and potential source of motivation during this crunch time of finals.

You can sample some of their stuff on their myspace pages:

Super Senior Appreciation Day
Date: Thursday, December 4, 2008
Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Location: Vanderslice Cabaret Room

Our beloved super seniors David Kim, Paul Seo, and Eugene Kim will be ending their BC careers at the end of this semester. Just because it’s the middle of the year doesn’t mean we can let them leave without showing them we love them and we’ll miss them.

Korean Adoptee Mentoring Program (KAMP)
Date: Saturday, December 6, 2008
Time: 12:00pm - 3:30pm (Meet at St. Ignatius Church @ 11 a.m. to leave together)
Location: Wellesley College

KAMP is the Korean Adoptee Mentorship Program and we’ve been asked by Wellesley KSA to help out as volunteers and mentors for Korean American children adoptees. This program plays a very important role in shaping these children especially because it is very hard for people to know about their own heritage and culture if they do not grow up in that environment. This mentoring program allows these Korean American children to learn about the Korean culture while having fun.

Those who would like to help out and be a volunteer and a mentor for these children please e-mail us back at bostoncollegeksa@gmail.com telling us that you are interested in going. We will meet at St. Ignatious Church on lower campus at 11 AM that day to leave as a group. In terms of what we are doing during the program, we will be helping out with the interactive kimbap making activity as well as playing with the kids and getting to know them a little better. Sounds like fun doesn’t it?? =] I hope to see a lot of you guys there this saturday!!!

Hope to see you guys out there. Finish the year strong y’all!!

Hey guys, for those of you who went on retreat, the name Sam Yoon might ring a bell. Just a reminder, Sam Yoon is the first asian-american elected to office in boston, and current korean-american city-councilor in your city (Boston). He is one of the few Asian American role models in the political sphere, and a source of progressive voice and direct representation of us korean/asian-american in government. He acknowledges our concerns and even has visited bc campus numerous times in the past.

BC KSA has been supporting Sam Yoon since 2004, and now there are talks about him running for the MAYOR of Boston!!!

Below are some links to get more info on Sam Yoon.

http://www.samyoon.com

Also, one of our past presidents, Dong Joo (hi dong!) has his own personal fundraising page for Sam Yoon. The link to that page is http://samyoon.helpmycampaign.com/djl523/myfundraising. Let’s all try to support Sam Yoon in whatever way possible, whether it is $1 to $20 or even more if you wanted to, in helping him raise the resources he will need to move up in Boston’s political world!!! Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Let’s get our voices heard.

Thank you BC KSA!!! =]

sincerely,
